What is White Russian?
Gustave Tops, a Belgian bartender, was credited with creating the Black Russian. In 1949, the story goes that Tops created the Black Russian, in the bar of the Hotel Metropole in Brussels to honor Perle Mesta, then the US ambassador to Luxembourg. Sometime in the 1950s, when sweet and dairy drinks were at their peak, the cream was added, and the White Russian was born.
