Last summer during a trip to Rio de Janeiro I discovered how they prepare this traditional Brazilian cocktail; the secret is that they use fresh tropical fruits and they offer it on the beautiful beaches of Ipanema and Copa Cabana so I had to try them!
What is a Raspberry Citrus Caipirinha?
Well here begins the fun! This traditional Brazilian cocktail has Cachaca as its alcoholic base, which is a distillate made from sugar cane. It is erroneously mentioned as a style of rum, cachaça, and its most famous cocktail, the caipirinha, has been enjoyed mainly in Brazil for a long time. Apart from the distillate, another of the ingredients for this cocktail is a fresh tropical fruit, in this case, raspberries, sugar, and fresh lemon juice.

What Does Cachaca Taste Like?
The flavor of the cachaca can vary, although it usually has a subtle sweetness (less than rum). It is usually vegetable and has some fruity notes. Many of the more commercial brands may have a chemical alcohol taste, while the more premium brands will have a more pronounced fruity flavor and deliciously sweet undertones.
