What is Aguachile Margarita?
This simple recipe is a twist on the Classic Margarita recipe, using fresh Cucumber, Cilantro, Freshly Orange Juice, Serrano or jalapeno Peppers, Fresh squeezed Lime Juice, Salt, Pepper, and sweetened with Agave Nectar that all mix together to give us an exquisite flavor Accompanied by Tequila Blanco, and Grand Marnier (orange liqueur).
Why is it Called Aguachile?
Shrimp Aguachile is a typical seafood culinary delight type of ceviche of the western coast of México, it is consumed mainly in the northwest, in an area that includes the states of Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Sonora, and Baja California.
Raw Shrimp is marinade with fresh lime juice in a small bowl resting for at least 20 minutes in the refrigerator, a bunch of cilantro, serrano pepper, and cucumbers, fresh lime juice is very important for its flavor, as red onion, fresh avocado slices, garlic powder optional, salt, and pepper to taste are used, you can eat it with tostadas or tortilla chips.
There are different intensities of spicy depending on your tolerance, it looks like an agua de chiles for the green sauce we get from the lime juice, cucumbers, and cilantro.
This typical dish inspires this recipe with that intense green color and fresh flavors, and spicy that you will love!
Ingredients For Aguachile Margarita
This Aguachile Margarita recipe is very simple and easy to prepare, just grab the following two ingredients:
- Tequila Blanco- This type is recommended, but also if you like reposado, which has a more complex flavor, you can also use it to enhance the agave flavor!
- Grand Marnier- The citrusy flavor and sweetness it’s the perfect balance for this margarita.
- Fresh Cucumbers- Vitamin E is involved in the stability of blood cells and fertility. Like vitamin C, it has antioxidant action, apart from providing an intense green color to our recipe!
- Freshly Lime Juice– The acidity of the freshly squeezed juice and its vitamin C perfectly complement this, Margarita.
- Orange Juice- It will bring sweetness and citrus flavor! Pineapple juice is optional.
- Agave Syrup- It will balance the citrus of the lime juice.
- Coriander-Is used in Mexican cuisine for the preparation of sauces, since it provides an excellent flavor and aroma, you will love this recipe with the balance of Serrano chili!
- Serrano Pepper- It is recommended to remove the seeds so that it does not have extensive spiciness!
- Salt & Black Pepper- to taste, this will give more flavor to the recipe!

Aguachile Recipe
Step 1
Peel and cut the cucumbers into large squares, cut the serrano pepper in half and remove the seeds, then add them to the blender glass with the fresh lime and orange juice, add a medium handful of cilantro, agave syrup, and season with salt and pepper taste, and blend until a homogeneous mixture is obtained!
Step 2
Add Tequila Blanco and Grand Marnier with the aguachile mixture into a cocktail shaker with ice.
Step 3
Shake vigorously for 5-8 sec
Step 4
Strain and pour into a margarita or old-fashioned glass previously rim it with chili powder, garnished with coriander and chiles serranos optional, and ENJOY!

- 3-ounce orange juice
- 2 large cucumbers cut into large squares

- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 slice of pepper and coriander optional for garnish
- 2 cups of ice
