Another iconic cocktail that cannot be missing from your repertoire is the whiskey sour, it is the perfect balance of sweet and sour that complements any occasion. It’s a beautiful color and creamy foam never fails to impress the eye!
What is a Whiskey Sour?
Well basically there are a few ingredients the base is Bourbon, and we continue with fresh lemon juice, natural syrup, cherry to garnish, and egg white to obtain that creamy foam, deliciously refreshing in the summer months and will warm you up in the winter season.
A Bit of History
The Whiskey Sour originates from the Chilean Port before the Pacific War of Iquique. One day Elliot Stubb, that was the name of the bartender, was doing some experiments in the “shaker” with whiskey and lemon and its flavor reached delights superior to all the other concoctions that he used to give his clients. “I’m going to put some sweet on it,” he said to himself. He added sugar to a portion of lemon juice, a little ice, and whiskey in proportion and beat for a few seconds and tasted the most exquisite drink he had prepared.

What is The Best Bourbon to Use?
I used MAKER´S MARK´S in sight, it has an incredible caramel color. Pure and clean. Smelling it transports you to the middle of the Kentucky countryside. Among the fields of corn and wheat. The smell of intense caramel and field flowers. In the mouth, the entrance is, how to say it. Do you remember those first drinks of alcohol from your youth? It is something similar. It’s 45% alc./vol. It enters in a very consistent way, but it is still sweet. It is one of my favorite bourbons to make classic cocktails like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned.
Notes:
- it’s easier to separate the egg yolk from the egg whites when they’re cold.
- Don’t have a cocktail shaker? You can use a mason jar or any jar with a tight-fitting lid.
Looking for Other Classics?
Should I Add a Raw Egg White?
You can make a perfectly lovely Whiskey Sour by sticking to the original recipe of just whiskey, lemon juice, and sugar. These three ingredients balance each other beautifully.
But if you want to take your Whiskey Sour to the next level, add an egg white. This will not, in fact, make your cocktail taste like an egg. Instead, the egg white will add texture, richness, and a particular creaminess.
Adding Bitters to Your Whiskey Sour
Should you add Angostura bitters to your Whiskey Sour? Yes! Angostura bitters add dimension to the flavor and are a little visual. Use a very gentle motion with the bottle to drop bitters onto the top of the cocktail.
