What is Sangria Cocktail?
The history is rooted in Spain. It is believed to have originated in the southern region of Andalusia, where it was traditionally consumed to cool down during hot summers.
Sangria is a fancy sweet cocktail infused with red wine and fresh fruits.
Over the years, the popularity of red sangria spread throughout Spain, Portugal, and eventually the world, becoming a refreshing and beloved cocktail.
Ingredients For Sangria Cocktail
These are the ingredients to create a delicious cocktail! You need a variety of ingredients. Let us begin!
- Red Wine- Preferably a fruity, medium-bodied variety such as Tempranillo or Merlot.
- Apples- Sliced or diced is the most used in this recipe, the apple provides to the recipe a sweet but very mild flavor, somewhat reminiscent of slightly overripe melon. The pulp is juicy and slightly crunchy.
- Lemon- In a cocktail, you cannot miss the balance with this citrus flavor that the fresh lemon slices will provide!
- Red Fruits- I used fresh cranberries but also you can use berries like raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or blueberries.
- Sweeteners- If you want your sangria sweet you can use brown sugar or maple syrup.
- Brandy- If you want to give it an alcoholic kick you can use this ingredient that will enhance the flavor of your cocktail!
- Club Soda- Give a bubbly touch to your palate by adding a little fizz!

Tropical Fruits: If you are one of those who prefer a more tropical flavor, add mango, pineapple, kiwi, pear, or peaches.
Others Wines: Transform it into a white sangria or rosé sangria by adding your favorite white wine or rosé wine, you will get a refreshing cocktail too.

Herbs- Feel free to experiment with different herbs to improve the flavor profile. Basil, thyme, or even a sprig of rosemary can add interesting complexity to sangria.
Spicy- For a spicy kick, try adding a cinnamon stick or a little piece of fresh ginger. This adds warmth and depth to the overall taste experience.
Mocktail- For a non-alcoholic version, replace the red wine and alcohol with grape juice or cranberry juice, use lime soda instead the club soda. Follow the same steps and adjust the sweetness accordingly.
Feel free to make adjustments and modifications based on your personal preferences and the ingredients you have on hand.
